Fantasy Football 101 - Snake Drafts 3rd Round Reversal
In fantasy redraft leagues, it is very advantageous to have one of the top few picks in the draft. Grabbing one of the projected top players allows you to establish a phenomenal foundation, and not be as concerned about the subsequent rounds that follow. Also, when you have one of the top 2 or 3 picks in the draft, you are able to grab 3 of the top 25-27 players, which really sets you up for success. Because of this advantage, the "3rd round reversal" approach has been created.
What this means, is that the first 2 rounds of the fantasy draft will operate as normal. It will be a snake format, and the first two rounds will be selected like always. However, whenever the 3rd round begins, the first pick in the 3rd round will go back to the last pick in the draft. This takes away the advantage of the number 1 pick getting to grab the top player in the 1st and 3rd rounds. For example, in a 12 person draft, the 1st person get to select the 1.01, the 2.12, the 3.12, and the 4.01. Whereas, the 12th person gets to select the 1.12, the 2.01, the 3.01, and the 4.12.
This reversal really evens the playing fields and provides similar value in picks whether you are in the front or back of the draft. After the 3rd round is complete, the snake draft continues, and no other reversals occur.
