6 Rookies worth taking the Risk for in your 2022 Draft

August 17, 2022

Rookies - we all love them, but are terrified to take them. There is a time and a place to draft rookies, and below are 6 that we would happily take at their current draft positions.

Breece Hall
New York Jets
ADP: 4th Round

Draft capital - check

College pedigree - check

Jets offensives line - check

Hall has everything he needs to be successful in the NFL year one. He is a 6′ 1″ 220lb back with great hands. His over 4500 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns in his college career show how explosive of a runner he is. The Jets spent a lot of money over the past 2 seasons giving Zach Wilson the tools he needs to lead an offensive (Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore to name a few). Expect Breece Hall to return value at his 4th round ADP.

Drake London
Atlanta Falcons
ADP: 8th Round

London has landed a spot in an offense in which he is the clear cut WR1 for the team. The Atlanta Falcon are in rebuild mode, and they are going to be relying on Kyle Pitts and Drake London to lead the charge. In 2022, there will be a high focus of coverage on Pitts given his incredible 2021 debut. This will allow London to shine. London is a 6′ 5″ 210lb receiver who has 4.4 speed. He will be able to muscle and accelerate past his opponents in the NFL. He was a 1000 yard receiver with the Trojans in 2021, and is in a place to succeed in the NFL year 1.

Chris Olave
New Orleans Saints
ADP: 8th Round

Olave is a speedster. His 4.26 40-time showcased the type of athlete he will be in the NFL. Olave will be a great compliment to the veteran receivers Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry, and if there is one thing we know about Jameis Winston is that he is not afraid to air it out. Expect Olave to be on the receiving end of several boom plays. Plus, there are talks of putting him in the slot, and being part of more customized plays to showcase his athletic ability. We love grabbing Olave in the 8th.

Dameon Pierce
Houston Texans
ADP: 9th Round

Pierce is our favorite mid-round rookies to grab in drafts this league. He has shown in the offseason that he is the RB1 on this team. With backs like Marlon Mack, Rex Burkhead, Dare Ogunbowale, and Royce Freeman, Pierce does not have much competition in front of him. In the preseason opener, Pierce had 5 carries for 49 yards. His 9.8 yards per carry are why the Houston sat him for the preseason game 2 to prepare him for the season. Expect a steal at Pierce in the 8th round (he won't get past me there).

James Cook
Buffalo Bills
ADP: 9th Round

James Cook, a pass catching back from Georgia landed a spot with one of the top offenses in the NFL. In the offseason, the Bills were aggressive in trying to add a pass catching back to their team. Their confidence in Devin Singletary and Zach Moss to own that area has decreased. They explored adding J.D. McKissic, but that deal fell through. This is what led to them spending a round 2 pick on Cook.

Cook is the younger brother of superstar Dalvin Cook, and has a very similar style. A versatile back who averaged over 6 years a carry in all 4 years at Georgia and over 1000 yards from scrimmage in his Senior year. Being tied to Josh Allen is a good thing, so don't be afraid to spend a 9th round pick on him!

Wan'Dale Robinson
New York Giants
ADP: 15th Round

It's time to take a flyer, and very few players are a better fit for that than Wan'Dale Robinson. Robinson is a versatile WR with 4.4 speed. In his last year at Kentucky, Robinson had over 1300 yards receiving, and was used as a gadget player in various sets. Placing him on the New York Giants is a great fit. Depsite the Giants spending the most money in the NFL in their receiving core, none have jumped out as the alpha. Spending one of your last picks in the draft on a player who could potentially step into that position week 1 seems like a no brainer. Take a shot - worst case, you cut him loose before week 2.
