6 Dynasty Sell High Candidates
August 26, 2022
Dynasty is all about timing, and knowing where you sit compared to other members in your league. You should enter every season knowing that you are ready to Compete or Rebuild (please see our Fantasy 101 article for more details). Below are 6 players that you should look to Sell High in Dynasty formats.
Nick Chubb
Cleveland Browns
Running Back
Chubb is arguably one of the best pure running backs in the NFL. This is a guy who has never finished outside of RB 17 in 0.5 ppr leagues, and is a lock for 1,000+ yards and 8 TDs a season. The Browns offense has taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks. The suspension of Deshaun Watson is going to put the quarterback play into the hands of Jacoby Brissett, which brings the overall offense down quite a bit. However, this will put more responsibility onto the running game where Chubb will be able to shine.
WHY SELL HIGH?
If you are a contender, Chubb is a fantastic asset to have on your team Any contending team should be willing to give a first round plus for a player like Nick Chubb. He will be going into his age 27 season, and the NFL has historically not been very kind to running backs beyond that age. These are reasons Chubb should be sold high now as he is still considered to be a top back, will still be asked to handle a large work load, yet his lifespan in the NFL is most likely coming to a close soon. Cash in on him now before it is too late.
Antonio Gibson
Washington Commanders
Running Back
The window of opportunity to cash in on Antonio Gibson is getting smaller by the day. Gibson began his NFL career on fire. Finishing as an RB1 in each of his first 2 seasons. Yet, going into year 3, it is clear that the Commanders staff do not have the confidence that Gibson can continue this run. Washington spent a day 2 pick on Brian Robinson, whose best trait is his ability to hang on to the ball. Fumbles have been the Achilles heal for Gibson, and Washington is trying to address that through offseason moves Plus, they resigned J.D. McKissic, who is going to soak up all of the passing work. It also doesn't help that Gibson has been seen on special teams quite a bit this offseason.
WHY SELL HIGH?
Gibson's time is coming to an end quickly in Washington, and potentially the NFL. However, based on redraft ADP, it is clear that people are still valuing him incredibly high (current a 4th round pick). Try to flip him for a upcoming 1st or younger talent while you still can.
Damien Harris
New England Patriots
Running Back
Damien Harris has an excellent 2021 season. He finished the year with over 1,000 yard from scrimmage and 15 TDs on the ground. This finished him as RB14 in 0.5 ppr rankings Harris was a red zone machine last year, and was able to turn those opportunities into several touchdowns. The concern, is despite having 15 TDs, he did not finish as an RB1 last season - we can expect positive regression in that TD area. Plus, Rhamondre Stevenson has been taking the majority of his reps with the first string offseason, meaning, he has supplanted Harris, or their will be a time share at best.
WHY SELL HIGH?
Use last year as a selling point to get out from under Harris. The Patriots are introducing a new running back scheme that appears to be much more focused on RBBC, brining the value of Harris down quickly. Plus, it is very unlikely that Harris will duplicate last years TD numbers with the emergence of Stevenson in the offense.
Juju Smith- Schuster
Kansas City Chiefs
Wide Receiver
Juju is a young, 25 year old WR that has proven that he is capable of being a wide receiver 1 in the NFL. In 2018, he was the WR8, and was not even the top option for his team (Antonio Brown). Over the past 3 seasons, the Steelers have departed from Antonio Brown, and Juju has under performed as the top guy. An aging Big Ben, constant double teams, and injury have resulted in his decline. Now, going into 2022, we have a healthy Juju, the top QB in the league, and expectations are soaring for his production this season.
WHY SELL HIGH?
JuJu's stock has rose significantly after joining the Chiefs in the off season. We can expect him to have a big role in the Mahomes led offense, with the possibility of getting closer to those previous expectations. That being said, there is a lot of risk and history around Juju that does not make him a long term asset to trust. Utilize this spike in attention and expectations to sell him now, ideally before the season starts, as his stock may not be this high again in the future.
Diontae Johnson
Pittsburgh Steelers
Wide Receiver
Diontae Johnson is coming off of a great year 3 season in the NFL. He finished as the WR8 in 0.5 point PPR formats. Johnson was peppered with targets in 2021, received 169 of them. Ben Roethlisberger clearly had issues with his arm strength last year, and Johnson benefitted greatly from the short yard receptions.
WHY SELL HIGH?
Johnson's stock is incredibly high right now following the last 2 seasons. However, Big Ben has retired, and the quarterback play in Pittsburgh is suspect to say the least. The Steelers are going into 2022 with either Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, or the rookie Kenny Picketts behind center - none of which have our confidence to support a top end wide out. Sell Johnson now while his stock remains high.
Travis Kelce
Kansas City Chiefs
Tight End
What is there to say about Travis Kelce that we all don't already know. He was the TE1 in 5 of the last 6 years (finished as TE2 last year). He is tied to arguably the best QA in the league in Mahomes, and is a guaranteed lock for 1,000+ yards and 7 TDs a season.
WHY SELL HIGH?
Kelce is going into his year 33 season. Despite getting up in age, last season did not appear to show any signs of regression. That being said, the end is in sight, and you don't want to be left holding the bag. Sell him now and get a lump sum while you can. Kelce is going for a mid to late round 1st plus in dynasty formats.
